modest by default (or MBD) is an alternate project of Gastón Cepeda, focused on barber beats. This project is known for its versatile works, politically charged imagery and profoundly relaxing music. He has graduated in advertising graphic design, which serves him as a visual artist and participant in the KEVLAR design collective.

As per the majority of the scene, most of MBD’s works consist of reworking lesser known original contents from around the world and arranging them into synthetic works with proper identities. Most of his project titles and song titles are in foreign languages—the most common ones are Arabic, Japanese and Traditional Chinese.

He mainly posts on his Bandcamp account, on average once every 5 weeks as of July 2025. What made him gain traction was the explosion of the barber scene in 2022 on YouTube, where his works gathered millions of views with Permaculture. All of his projects can be downloaded for free on the MEGA archive which he regularly updates.

Cepeda largely uses this project as an outlet and to portray more of his thoughts about his rage against various governmental entities, especially his support toward Palestine versus Israel, and Kurds versus Türkiye and ISIS. Going in the same direction, he translates his name to Arabic as متواضع بشكل افتراضي (translit. “mutawadie bishakl aftiradiin”) on promotional clips such as that for TCOC II.
