Millionaires

Active between 2007 and 2017, Millionaires began as a group comprised of MySpace kids Melissa Marie Green, her sister Alison, and their friend Dani Artaud. Emerging from Orange County, California, the band formed somewhat accidentally when the trio used GarageBand to record their debut song “I Like Money,” quickly gaining popularity on the early social media platform MySpace.

Songs like “I LIKE MONEY!!!!” and “Alcohol” perfectly captured that era of mid-00s scene internet culture, featuring auto-tuned vocals and electronic beats. Their signature sound was a mix of aggressively explicit lyrics paired with an unrelenting electropop backing, often stirring controversy for their provocative themes and raw expression.

Dani Artaud left the project in 2011, leaving the Green sisters to continue as a duo. The band persisted through the years, touring extensively with other scene bands and releasing music independently. In 2013, they dropped their first full-length album, Tonight, further solidifying their place in the electropop scene. Despite fluctuating popularity, they maintained a loyal fanbase.

Their most recent single, “Rich Girls”, was released in 2017. After that, the group became inactive, though their influence on the “scene” subculture and early internet music trends continues to be recognized in nostalgic retrospectives.
