Metro Zu
Metro Zu was an American hip-hop collective based in Miami, Florida, formed in 2007 by Lofty305, Ruben Slikk, and POSHGOD. They were later joined by Mr. B “The Poshstronaut”. Known for blending skate culture, jazz, hip-hop, and disco, Metro Zu stood out for their eclectic sound and distinctive visual art.
In 2010, they released their debut mixtape, KushPak, which kicked off a string of projects that built a cult following. Between 2010 and 2012, the group released multiple albums and mixtapes. During this period, they became associated with Raider Klan, the underground collective led by SpaceGhostPurrp, with whom they frequently collaborated.
Through Raider Klan, Metro Zu members began working with Denzel Curry, one of its standout signees. Curry later introduced Ruben Slikk to a young Mike Dece. Slikk and Dece formed a side group called Propr Boyz, which featured contributions from Lofty305 and production by Poshstronaut. Around this time, Metro Zu’s music became grittier and darker, marking a shift from their earlier sound. While the quality of the music was sometimes inconsistent, their notoriety and underground presence grew.
By 2012, Ruben Slikk’s mental health began to deteriorate, and the collective’s drug use intensified. Tensions rose, especially due to the noticeable age gap between Mike Dece (15–16 at the time) and Slikk (around 22), leading to both being removed from Raider Klan. Slikk and Dece eventually relocated to Brazil, where Dece had family, and the pair released the second Propr Boyz mixtape.
Metro Zu’s final project with all members came out around 2013–2014. However, Ruben Slikk and Lofty305 continued collaborating on singles and features until 2018. By 2014, the collective began to lose momentum and slowly disbanded. Slikk continued releasing solo mixtapes, though the quality varied, and by 2018, he was reportedly struggling with heroin addiction.
Lofty305 remained active musically until around 2022, after which he slowed his output and focused more on instrumental beat tapes. Poshstronaut deactivated most of his social media accounts and has since remained off the grid. POSHGOD continued releasing music until 2021, after which he also disappeared from the public eye, having made his social media accounts private.
