Mark Kozelek is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist who served as the main creative force behind Red House Painters. He currently performs prominently under the moniker of Sun Kil Moon. His songs praised for their direct lyricism, with a focus on geographical locations and autobiographical information. The work released under his own name tends to be solo guitar focused.

In the mid-2010s Kozalek began to garner a negative reputation due to misogynistic comments towards journalists and an odd feud with indie rock band War On Drugs. In 2020, a Pitchfork investigation reported allegations from several women accusing Kozelek of sexual misconduct. The fallout significantly damaged his reputation.
