Marine Research were an indie rock band based in Oxford from 1997 to 2001. After the tragic death of Mathew Fletcher, the remaining members of Heavenly (1989) retired the name and reformed as Marine Research. DJ Downfall was added to their group as their drummer.
Marine Research only released one album, ‘Sounds From the Gulf Stream’. Two music videos were uploaded for ‘Parallel Horizontal’ and ‘Queen B’ under Elefant Records. They played a 7-track session at Concierto Radio 3 in 1999, as well as multiple Peel sessions while they were active, such as the session on May 18th 1999 which includes two Peel-exclusive songs.
After they split up, Amelia Fletcher, Rob Pursey, and DJ Downfall regrouped to form Tender Trap.
After Marine Research, Cathy Rogers was promoted to a creative director at RDF Media’s new Los Angeles centre. Now, Peter Momtchiloff plays in Would-Be-Goods, Speed of Sound and Scarlet’s Well.
