Mandrill is a pioneering American funk band known for their eclectic blend of rock, jazz, Latin music, and soul. Formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1968, the band consisted of three brothers: Carlos Wilson (drums, vocals), Louis Wilson (trumpet, vocals), and Ric Wilson (saxophone, vocals). Mandrill gained a significant following in the 1970s with hits like “Mandrill” and “Fencewalk,” and released a string of critically acclaimed albums, including “Mandrill” (1971), “Mandrill Is” (1972), and “Composite Truth” (1973). The band’s energetic live performances and innovative fusion of styles have influenced a wide range of artists, from Earth, Wind & Fire to DJ Shadow.
