James Irving Hudson Jr. (born October 12, 1997), better known by his stage name MAJ (formerly SEMAJ), is a rapper and singer from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, currently based in Dallas, Texas. He is tempering with grunge-inflected production, soulful delivery, and nocturnal hip-hop with stark vulnerability and confessional storytelling.

Originally starting off as a content creator known as ‘SemajTV,’ James began his original YouTube channel on July 12, 2012, where he uploaded skits, reactions and other types of content. Over the next 5 years, MAJ built a following of over 50,000 subscribers. MAJ experimented with music throughout this time as well, releasing his first ever project The Beta EP on August 24, 2016. This marked the true beginning of his musical career, quickly following this project up with it’s sequel The Beta 2 EP on January 29, 2017.

Although his YouTube channel was finally starting to gain some traction, MAJ made the risky decision of deleting his original channel, choosing to restart on a brand new channel on May 5, 2017. This decision proved worthwhile as he amassed over 100,000 subscribers in under a year due to his popular reaction videos. Known for representing a Minecraft Creeper hoodie in his videos, MAJ stood out from the rest. He even ended up releasing a Minecraft-themed EP titled Lil Creeper just before the year had ended.

Going into 2018, MAJ continued to produce reaction videos while also releasing music on the side. On April 16, 2018, MAJ released his first EP of the year No One Cares. This EP was notable as it marked the change from ‘SEMAJ’ to ‘MAJ,’ while also featuring some of MAJ’s most notable songs to date. He released 5 more EP’s over the next 3 months. MAJ’s music was beginning to grow rapidly in popularity throughout this time, as he was becoming more known for his music then his YouTube videos. Later in the year, MAJ made the decision to quit making reaction videos on his YouTube channel. He deleted all of his videos and decided he was going to be pursuing music full time.

After singing a deal with Electric Feel, MAJ returned on January 18, 2019 with his debut single, “Come Here.” Featuring a professional music video, this song indicated the next step in MAJ’s career. MAJ released a few more singles throughout 2019, those being “Spaceships,” “Trial & Error,” “Tesla” and “2drunk” featuring 24kGoldn.

MAJ began 2020 on January 18, 2020, where he announced through a now-deleted Instagram post that he had signed to the major record label Def Jam Recordings. A month later on February 28, 2020, he officially re-released his breakout single “Sloppy Seconds.” This led into the release of his debut studio EP Majestic on March 13, 2020. Following this release up on June 17, 2020, MAJ released his second and final EP of the year, The Exotic Party. The next couple of months would be quiet on releases until December 18, 2020, when MAJ returned with a surprise guest spot on Eminem’s “These Demons.”

Going into 2021, MAJ ended up leaving Def Jam and Electric Feel and instead chose to become an independent artist once more. He released his next project “d evil” mixtape on March 29, 2021. He also started to become more consistent as a YouTuber after an almost three year break, uploading content talking about his life and reactions to his past work.

On July 4, 2021, MAJ made a brief rebrand as ‘majinmaj,’ releasing the single “feel.” on that same day. This song marked the beginning of a new era for James, as it leaves behind his industry connected past that he no longer wants apart of. This rebrand didn’t last very long however as by his 24th birthday on October 12, 2021, MAJ released No One Cares 2. Just a few weeks later on October 28, 2021, MAJ announced through an Instagram post that he would be officially retiring from music. This retirement would be short-lived though as MAJ would ended up continuing to release songs frequently throughout the next couple of years.

MAJ returned on March 27, 2022 with the release of avenge, an 8 track mixtape featuring rage inspired production. He followed this a month later on April 29th with IUSED2WANTTHISSHTFOREVERYALLCANHAVEITBACK.

On June 2, 2022, MAJ released a video to his YouTube channel announcing that he would be deleting his channel once again to start over fresh. He revealed that he would delete his channel with over 113,000 subscribers on July 12, 2022, the 10 year anniversary of his YouTube career. MAJ released 2 more projects in 2022, with UNORTHODOX on September 22nd and the 137-track MAJ LOST TAPES on November 14th.

2023 would be a bit slower on releases, featuring only 2 drops, JAVA (Before Creative Mode) on February 10, 2023 and HARDCORE MODE on June 1, 2023. Unbeknownst to fans, this would be MAJ’s final official release, shortly deleting his SoundCloud profile, all of his music from streaming platforms and his social media accounts, choosing to go completely ghost for a while.

Since the deletion of his second YouTube channel, MAJ as tackled an array of different ventures. Going by a plethora of names (MAJ, SEMAJ, OGSemajj, JayTheLibra and more), he’s started fresh on a new YouTube channel where he’s uploaded a variety of different types of content, ranging from original music, reaction videos, gameplay commentaries, story times, and most recently competitive gameplay in games like Marvel Rivals and Overwatch. He occasionally uploads short-form content as well, where he’s seen varying success. Whether he’s going by MAJ or JayTheLibra, one thing is for certain, James has yet to give up on creating.

Although MAJ has taken down the majority of his music from all DSP’s, even deleting his previous SoundCloud account that peaked at over 33,000 followers, you can still listen to his music through various archive accounts on YouTube and SoundCloud. MAJ has even created a new SoundCloud account where he uploads new songs from time to time.

On January 23, 2026, MAJ returned after an almost three year hiatus with the release of Aft3r D3@th. This EP featured various songs he had recorded throughout 2024-2025, with MAJ stating in a YouTube video that he was planning on becoming more active again with his musical releases and his YouTube channel.
