Lil Skullkid
Ohio’s Jacob Burke, better known by his musical pseudonym Lil Skullkid, is an 18 year old artist and producer.
Growing up in a small town outside of Cleveland, Jacob began making music aged 11. Originally opting to produce EDM, in high school he later shifted to a blend of rock and cloud rap that borrows elements of pop music. Drawing from the lyrical themes of third-wave emo, his songs feature catchy pop-influenced hooks, accompanied by trap production. He’d often borrow equipment from his school to enhance his sound.
Skullkid has been influenced by bands like Three Days Grace, Taking Back Sunday, Hawthorne Heights, and AFI. While outside of music video games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time have also left their mark on him. The name Lil Skullkid was based on the name of the character “Skull Kid”.
“Home Tonight” was released on soundcloud in July of 2018. The song was Skullkid’s first track, which he put out under the name “Lil Gemini”. It sampled the AFI track, “This Time Imperfect”
Throughout the following years, he continued to expand his discography releasing a number of singles on soundcloud during those years, with more on the horizon.
