Jasper William Johnson (born February 18, 2005), professionally known as Lil Shine, is an American recording artist and record producer from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Shine started making music in 2017 at the age of 12, releasing his first song “DROP THE TOP” in September of that year. After “Stop!” and “Relax!” were released in 2019, Shine gained recognition for being a 14-year-old rapper—taken by some as a joke artist due to his pre-pubescent voice.

Shine’s music consists of plugg and pluggnb with lyrics containing topics such as his relationships, drug habits, and luxuries.

On June 30, 2021, Shine would release his debut mixtape, HEAVENLY ASCENSION, marking his first full length project.

Shine would then release his debut studio album, Losing Myself, on October 31, 2022. The project would become a cult classic within the underground scene, cementing Shine’s place as one of the underground’s defining young voices almost immediately upon release. Its influence has been cited as a turning point for Shine, transforming him from a joke artist known for his youth, into an artist taken seriously within the community.

Shine would follow this up with his August 2023 EP, Lovesick, before releasing his second EP, Tearscape, a month later on September 2, 2023.

Shine would then release his sophomore studio album, Shine Forever, on January 1, 2025. The album further built on the momentum of his two EPs from the previous year, and was led by the standout track “KissMeThruDaPhone.”

In December 2024, Shine faced significant legal troubles when he and two co-defendants were federally indicted on charges including conspiracy to acquire and obtain controlled substances by fraud, 11 counts of wire fraud, accessing a protected computer in furtherance of fraud, and 4 counts of aggravated identity theft. The accusations centered on an alleged scheme to hack the DEA’s practitioner database from late 2022 to 2023 in order to fraudulently obtain large quantities of promethazine with codeine. Shine would later enter a plea agreement in January 2026, and was sentenced to 36 months in prison on May 19, 2026.

Despite the looming legal situations, the hype continued to climb even higher with plenty of snippets throughout 2025 and early 2026. On May 15, 2026, Shine would release his most anticipated album yet, Get Rich Or Die Sippin', having featured artists such as Summrs and Kankan, with standout tracks including “Like What?,” “Forever,” and “Just Me N' My Cup.” The album served as the culmination of the long wait, arriving just days before his sentencing and becoming a ‘farewell’ release for him.
