Jesse Winchester’s titular album JESSE WINCHESTER was produced by Robbie Robertson for Albert Grossman and Bearsville Records. Jesse didn’t much care for it, so he self-produced many of his later albums.
YANKEE LADY and BRAND NEW TENNESSEE WALTZ from that first album are pretty much autobiographical, except Jesse left for Montreal, not Mexico, where he lived until Jimmy Carter pardoned those who chose to avoid slaughtering Asian’s in their own Civil war by skipping the whole sordid affair.
