Originally from Edmonton, Canada, Homeshake is the solo project of singer-songwriter Peter Sagar (born March 15, 1990), former guitarist and keyboardist for Mac DeMarco. Homeshake’s musical style consists of indie pop and alternative/psychedelic rock, and is characterized by slow, dreamy beats and downplayed vocals.

In a 2024 interview, Sagar explained how he came up with his stage name:

When I was a teenager, me and my friends had a secret handshake. And then I left Edmonton and that’s when I made the band. It’s like a pseudonym and I guess just an act of missing my friends at home.
