Formed in Seattle in 1983, Heir Apparent is a legendary US power/progressive metal band. Their sound is often compared to early Queensrÿche, characterized by dynamic, high-pitched vocals, theatrical arrangements, and complex guitar work.

Founded by virtuosic guitarist Terry Gorle, the band released their critically acclaimed debut album, Graceful Inheritance, in 1986, which gained cult status—especially in Europe. However, internal friction led to Gorle being fired by the other members shortly after, causing the band to lose vital record deal opportunities and delaying their path to mainstream success. Despite the setback, they remain a seminal touchstone for 80s underground metal fans.
