Haze Lagoon is an indie-pop musician from somewhere in the United States. After initially recording five demos at Gravity Studios—which would later become the unofficial release of Mangenue—with various producers, he released his debut mixtape, Saturnian Freak, in September 2021. Issues Magazine described it as “a beautiful, skillfully made album,” further stating: “Sometimes sounding like Incubus, other times like Thom Yorke, still other times like Coldplay. Always, though, they manage to break ever so quietly into new ground—never revamping the old, always reinterpreting it.” Three months later, he released Immoralist—a title inspired by the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche—exploring themes of existentialism as presented by French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre. The single “Infamy” introduced his concept of “existential projection,” which he described as follows: “‘Infamy’ is about existential projection. Instead of mentally being existential, I was thinking more about the physicality aspect—moving through the world in a way where one isn’t concerned with the current moral landscape. It’s the idea of experiencing experiences for that sake alone and letting them shape you.” BuzzMusic praised the release for its “lyrical motifs,” adding that “Haze Lagoon has a knack for allowing the abstract wording to conjure up vivid imagery that impeccably represents the quintessence of the song.”
