Jaykob Skeete (born September 9, 2001) better known by his stage name Retro is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Hailing from Virginia, Retro is an Independent artist.

Delivering his first Single in 2017, Retro has been continually putting out tracks from that point onward. With his main genre of music being Pop and Hip-hop Retro had to find his own path to be different amongst all his peer rappers and pop producers.

Jaykob wanted a username that would be tuff but also last him a lifetime. He originally was freestyling on a beat called retro. At the time Jaykob had gone by Skeete so he added retro to the end. Later he just wanted RETRO because just like retro games, clothes, or movies no matter how old they are they’ll forever be timeless. He’s now Retro because the time he spent on this planet, He’ll accomplish something that will be timeless.

Retro describes his music as raw underground expression, sorting through of mix of emotions, tones, and energies throughout the song. He creates music with stories or melodies folks won’t forget.

His creative process involves him getting started with a song, He rolls up and spark to himself. After he’s picked a beat that he feels the most, he starts freestyling over that beat. Retro tries to come up with words that aren’t used or rhymed in other songs. He wants to dish out and create songs that no one has heard before.

Retro was the only boy in a household with just his mother and 2 sisters. He had to help and provide for his family. Went through ups and downs especially with financial struggles. His father wasn’t in his life but pitched in a small amount here and there. His mother slaved as a single mother and moved them of out the hood. Retro and his family lived more in the country however his mother couldn’t keep up with the payments and even though wasn’t in the hood he still couldn’t afford clothes, food, and more. God helped him and his family through all hardships. Retro worked and grinding and kept faith in the lord. He went from nothing to something and now his ERA of music is just beginning.

His inspiration to make music are fellow artists he looks up to. Retro feels that he has talent that God wants him to share with the world. People can expect consistent releases of music and post on social media from him. In August He’ll be performing his first show. What to expect is Retro rising in the underground scene.
