Mainly known for his operas, Gottfried von Einem (1918-1996) was born to Austrian diplomats in Switzerland and spent his life in Germany and Austria during World War II. In addition to such operas as Danton’s Death and The Trial, he also composed a quantity of vocal and instrumental music.
