Gorguts is a Canadian death metal band formed in 1989 near Sherbrooke, Quebec. Renowned for their technical and avant-garde sound, they are considered pioneers of “dissonant” death metal—a subgenre characterized by its heavy atmosphere and atonal riffage. This genre was founded off of the sound of their groundbreaking third album Obscura, which is considered a landmark death metal release.

The sole constant member of the band has been guitarist and vocalist Luc Lemay. Although lemay temporarily broke up the band in 2005, it reformed in 2008 to work on their most recent full-length album. After overcoming legal issues and personal problems, Gorguts released Colored Sands in 2013. It was warmly received by fans and even earned a nomination for Juno Award.
