Gods Reflex was formed in 1995 in Rockton, Illinois. They self-released a tape with the same name that year.

They recorded and released their first full-length album, A Brief Lesson In Affection, on Johann’s Face (Smoking Popes/Alkaline Trio/Oblivion) in 1998. This was followed up two years later when Scenes From A Motel Seduction was released in 2000.

After their second album, guitarist Marcus Spitzmiller left the band. They remained together, initially replacing him before downsizing to a three-piece. The remaining members decided to part ways in 2002, and played a final show at Chicago’s Fireside Bowl in February of 2003.

Four years later, the members, including Spitzmiller, decided to begin writing and recording music together again. In 2007, they wrote their third record, When It’s Down To This. It was recorded by Mark Muraski (Cheap Trick/Comedy Central/The Colbert Report) and released in 2008.
