GERD

AKA: Elin Gerd Mona Lundgren

GERD is the stage name of Elin Gerd Mona Lungren; a Swedish singer born 1995 in Karlstad. Sweden who was surrounded by a love for music from the moment she could walk and talk.

Rhythmic music classes at the age of one were the highlight of her day. Musicals, theatre and the local choir were the next natural steps, taking up solo lessons at the age of 13. Growing up GERD asked her teachers how to challenge her vocals and build her own sound. They encouraged her to try opera. Having inspiration spring from so many sources, it’s no surprise that GERD found her sound where different worlds collide.

After high school, she left her hometown of Karlstad for London to finally pursue music. A full year of meeting people with her guitar in hand, GERD was no closer to her dreams.

After her quick stint in the UK, the discouraged artist decided to move to Stockholm and major in Development Studies. A career in music just didn’t seem feasible.

A thesis that she wrote led to her receiving an award. But as soon as she set foot on that stage to accept her, it became clear as day – she wanted to be on the stage, not as a scholar, but as an artist. She dropped out of college that same afternoon.

Not yet finished with her London dreams, GERD moved back and enrolled in music studies at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance as a singer-songwriter. Ultimately, GERD made her way back to Stockholm where she found her musical self.

The P3 Guld-winner has been praised by the likes of Zane Lowe, Jan Gradvall, Swedish Radio P3 while her debut EP In It To Lose was released to critical acclaim. Her debut single Lies for a liar came the fall of 2021.
