While facing hardships in his own life, Jonathan Barendsma (Gealdýr) began to understand the healing power that music can have on the soul. Barendsma, was keen to share his story through music. Inspired by the Poetic Eddas and determined to bring the Old Norse wisdom back to life. The name Gealdýr was inspired by Barendsma’s sighting of a white deer in a turbulent phase of his life; it is a combination of the Gaelic word ‘geal’ (white) and the Old Norse word ‘dýr’ (deer).
