With the help of a sensational music video posted on YouTube, a stirring cover version of Maroon 5’s ‘Love Somebody’ catapulted Filipa into the eyes and hearts of everyone who listens to the single. The simple rendition of this classic pop rock song has even been deemed by serious players in the music business to be stronger than the original, which was also released in 2013.

Filipa’s second cover is a haunting rendition of One Direction’s ‘Story of My Life’, which was dropped to YouTube in December 2013 and gained the attention of American radio and television personality Ryan Seacrest and was selected to partake in the search for the best cover version of the song.

Early in 2014, Filipa won the contest ahead of the likes of internationally renowned stars Jedward and The Vamps and the accolade gained her mass attention from the South African public and media. A month of intense media interest and engagement resulted in Filipa appearing on the front page of most local major newspapers and on prime time spots on television and radio news channels.

With the video receiving over 200,000 views, Filipa has become South Africa’s sweetheart and a true inspiration to the country’s youth.

From an early age, Filipa has known that the Arts is an avenue she has wanted to pursue. From opera to musical theatre, from rock to pop, Filipa’s vast knowledge and appreciation of music of all genres has assisted in setting the foundation to what is certain to become a budding career in music.

No stranger to large audiences,Filipa performed with poise and confidence to no fewer than 30,000 people at a friendly Portugal-Mozambique football match during the FIFA World Cup 2010. Acting is another passion for Filipa and after completing a Summer Course in Acting for Film at the New York Film Academy, she took up the offer of a small part in the British television series ‘Strike Back’ and the American feature film, The Giver, starring the likes of Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes and Taylor Swift.

Following her catalytic win in the RyanSeacrest.com One Direction ‘Story Of My Life’ cover contest, Filipa launched ‘Chills‟, her debut original single in June 2014. The music video made its global premiere on the international television and radio personality’s popular website and was composed and produced in Los Angeles by Joshua Zegan and Jeff Sojka.

While studying Drama and Musical Theatre in Cape Town, in 2014, and amidst performances with the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, Filipa was honoured with the ‘Next Best Thing’ Glamour Woman of Year Award and a Cosmo Awesome Women Nomination.

Filipa’s second original single, Little White Lie was written Pam Sheyne best known for writing the Grammy Award winning hit, Genie in a Bottle". Her single is due for release in South Africa on 30 September
