The Externalities was in the works as a solo project long before they began officially releasing music, with the band name coming from a term the lead singer heard in their high school economics class. They are located in the Philly area and are not defined by any specific genre, though their debut album, “Beauty Among the Weeds,” leans into the creator KayLynx’s love of punk rock and folk music.

As the band wrote on their Bandcamp, “Externalities is somewhere between … a band and a solo project.” This is because, so far, KayLynx has done much of the work as a DIY project. The Externalities are always working on new music and are currently working on another album.
