Eva Ortiz, known by her stage name Eva O, is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter and pioneer of the American Deathrock genre. Eva is best known for her contributions to Christian Death, along with founding bands such as Shadow Project and Super Heroines.

In 1981, Eva would form Super Heroines along with Sandra Ross and Del Mar Richardson. While performing with Super Heroines, Eva would meet Rozz Williams, whom would invite her to provide backing vocals for Christian Death’s debut album Only Theatre of Pain. After the release of Only Theatre, Eva would briefly join Christian Death on tour in replacement of guitarist Rikk Agnew.

The following year, Super Heroines would release their debut album, Cry for Help with their second album Souls That Save releasing in 1983.

In 1987, Super Heroines would disband. Internal conflict would lead to Eva and Rozz relocating from Los Angeles to San Francisco, where they would marry. Following their marriage, Rozz and Eva would form Shadow Project and would release their self titled album in 1991 and Dreams for the Dying the year after, during the Los Angeles riots.

In 1993, while working with Rozz’s reformation of Christian Death, Eva would begin a solo career, releasing her first album, Past Time that same year.

Shadow Project would be disbanded after Eva O and Paris Sadonis left the band to focus on Eva’s 1994 album Demons Fall for an Angel’s Kiss. Soon after the break up of Shadow Project, Rozz and Eva would divorce.

Three years later, Shadow Project would reunite and begin work on their third album From the Heart, but work would be cut short on April 1st, 1998, as Rozz Williams would take his own life. Nonetheless, the album would release later that year.

Eva would release Damnation (Ride the Madness) in 1999, followed by a brief hiatus going into the 2000’s. In 2005, Eva would return with her fourth studio album Damnation/Salvation, which served as a sequel to Damnation (Ride the Madness).

After another brief hiatus, Eva O would sign to Cleopatra Records and release Eva O MDX1 Mental Mayhem in 2014. Four years later, she would release The Rise of Eva O.

In 2026, Eva O, along with previous members of Christian Death would reunite for a performance at the United Theater on Broadway in Los Angeles after the premiere of Nico B’s documentary, Rozz Williams: Romeo’s Distress.
