Loved “While You Were Sleeping” when I first heard it in highschool. Much empathy to his experiences of loss. I didn’t lose anyone of that situation but was proximal to that catastrophe and also got a sense of the doom post – the skies were literally cloudy for weeks. As a person of color I am not of the belief that it was a racial war, I believe it was unlocatable corporate entities that exceeded even ills occurring in all countries – I think it was response to latent abusive mindsets written or emplaced in formats for corporate structures that were of people that had passed already and it came out in a unfair contention between innocent civilians of both countries as well as innocent corporate members nothing to do with the situation of all races ages and genders and countries from, even the seeming offenders – both in the planes and the buildings. I can imagine from my own experiences of horror and loss while not necessarily of the day but equally so – wondering in pain what sort of g*d could exist to allow such events, and then I found my own relationship with god, via finding such information to support my prementioned statements. I think this song of Elvis Perkins remains very powerfully emotional and expressive of his experiences during that time. Given certain lyrics, I think if he were to rise to further fame he should consider being very specific of each phrase of the song, further than simply what a verse meant, or the song over all, because while I remember reading his first intentions, as a potentially to gain a lot of attention song (I’ve noticed a rise in interest in early two-thousands folk-rock, and Perkin’s songs are within that category even if he wasn’t or doesn’t recognize himself as one of the most famous – he was very popular in my school and sometimes I’d hear him in a significant amount of cafes even in 2012.) I think he should expand on the lyrics or at least have it very clear alongside the lyrics in the format of the webpage or whatever print outs or what ever statements he makes alongside singing it live the very clear meaning of the songs, because we are in a very critically minded generation and people analyze everything for intention and so it would be necessary he clarify some lyrics, because I’ve read his first bios and my interpretation was not that he was racist, but I can see how that can be misintrepreted given both the subject matter and some of the lyrics – I am not writing this to attack him, it is sincere advice, so please do take note.
