Earlimart are a Los Angeles indie rock outfit started in 1998 and best known for their shimmering ballads and use of the studio as an instrument. Their two consistent members have been frontman Aaron Espinoza (guitar/vocals/keys) and former girlfriend Ariana Murray (bass/vocals/keys).

The early incarnation of Earlimart, consisting of Espinoza, Murray, Ashod Simonian (guitar), and Brian Thornell (drums), released two noisy records on Devil in the Woods, Filthy Doorways (1999) and Kingdom of Champions (2000), earning them regular comparisons to the Pixies and Sparklehorse.

This first incarnation disbanded in 2001; Espinoza would go on to found a studio known as The Ship and rebuild Earlimart in the vein of Grandaddy and Elliott Smith. An EP (The Avenues) and a full-length (Everyone Down Here) would follow in 2003. This version of Earlimart found greater success, being featured on the soundtracks of shows like ER, One Tree Hill, House, and Shameless. Later records like 2008’s Hymn and Her and 2012’s System Preferences showed Earlimart growing into more of a polished, chamber pop sound.

As of 2015, both Earlimart and The Ship seem to be inactive.
