Cutting their teeth in Meanjin, ealing is now Eora-based, firmly planting themselves amidst the burgeoning experimental and cutting-edge scenes. Sold out performances for Decay at the Bridge Hotel and opening for Grasps at 107 Projects shared their unique style to receptive audiences, playing forward-thinking hip-hop edits and heavy dance classics, all while weaving in their own expertly articulate production.

Last year’s 6A63 / ICY WHITE exemplifies this style, a double A-side single exploring ambient and phonk, out on local tastemaker label Deep Scan Technologies. ARCANE / h0lygh0st reiterates their forward-thinking approach to music, a heady exploration of hip-hop and breaks, while updating the phonk sound that’s become so intrinsic to ealing. “ARCANE” welcomes Naarm-based rapper Teether, whose chipmunk vocals echo Madlib’s Quasimoto, coming with energy over a psychedelic fusion of hip-hop and breaks. “h0lyghost” is the more mysterious and subtle counterpart, an angelic banger buried deep in reverb and granularity, continuing to capture the sounds of the web through their unique musical lens.

ealing’s dense palette and singular approach to electronic music has found fans across the alt-spectrum, with support from Ninajirachi and Moonbase, plus plays on Rinse FM, FBi Radio and 4ZZZ.
