Daryl Johns is an American musician who, having started out in jazz, made a crossover to indie/alternative pop.

Born to jazz musician parents in the Bronx, Johns began playing bass at the age of seven and enrolled in a number of jazz programmes, and was once featured on Fox News in a segment titled “12-Year-Old Jazz Prodigy”.

While he was raised in jazz music, Johns has expressed a love for music from the 1980s and indie music. Inspired by the likes of Mac DeMarco and Ariel Pink, Johns began releasing his own music under the alias Sweet Joseph. Starting with his self-titled album, Johns began releasing music under his own name. He signed to Mac’s Record Label, having first met DeMarco in 2019, and later toured as part of his band.
