Danger Danger formed in 1986 by Mike Pont (lead vocalist), Bruno Ravel (bassist), and Steve West (drummer). Ted Poley replaced Pont the next year, followed by Kasey Smith (keyboardist), Andy Timmons, and Al Pitrelli (guitarists). Their demo led to a recording contract with Lennie Petze at Epic Records, under his Imagine Records label.

The glam rock band’s 1989 self-titled debut album was a breakout, ranking at No. 88 on the Billboard 200. Two of the album’s singles “Naughty Naughty” and “Bang Bang” had considerable air time on the radio and MTV. Danger Danger went on tour with KISS, Alice Cooper, Warrant, and Extreme due to their early success.

In 1991, the band released the libido-charged Screw It! with two hits, “Monkey Business” and “I Still Think About You.” They toured with KISS again in Europe and sold out their own headlining tour of Japan. The band had solidified its place in the rock world.

Their third album in 1993 titled Cockroach was delayed due to lawsuits from Poley who left the band. Timmons also left later while Paul Laine (lead vocalist) was hired to re-record the album. Despite new efforts, Epic shelved the record, preventing its release for seven years. Danger Danger parted from the label and released the record in 2001 with Sony Music.

During this dark interim for the band, Ravel and West created their own label, Low Dice Records, in 1995. Scott Brown (bassist) joined the band for a short time to release its first album Dawn. The record took on a somber, introspective sound. Danger Danger returned to its melodic rock roots in 1997 with Four the Hard Way and The Return of the Great Gildersleeves in 2000.

In 2001, Cockroach finally released in a joint venture with Sony and Low Dice Records. The latter issued a special 2 CD set featuring two versions of the album. Disc one had Paul Laine’s vocals and disc two had original vocalist Ted Poley.

Danger Danger was voted No. 25 in VH1’s Top 40 Hairbands of All Time in 2002. That same year, their song “Naughty Naughty Xmas” was featured in Disney’s The Santa Clause 2.

Rare Cuts came out in 2003, a collection of rare, unreleased tracks. Early demos from original member Pitrelli, for example, were recorded in his mother’s laundry room. The band then toured the UK after ten years and Spain. In 2004, Laine left the group and Poley returned in his stead. They performed at the 2004 Sweden Rock Festival, with many shows across Scandinavia, Europe, Brazil, Canada, and the United States. In 2005, their live album Live and Nude released, featuring Laine on vocals from 2003.

Independent label Frontier Records released the band’s 2009 album Revolve. It has the classic lineup of Ted Poley, Bruno Ravel, Steve West, Andy Timmons, and Kasey Smith with then new member Rob Marcello (guitarist since 2003). The record also coincided with the 20th anniversary of their debut release for Imagine Records.

Danger Danger’s original members reunited in 2014 for a series of touring dates. Current members include Bruno Ravel, Steve West, Ted Poley, Rob Marcello, and Steve Brown (guitarist since 2016).
