Known for his audience-participation shows and, most recently, his work on the silver screen, Dan Deacon is a composer, performer, and electronic musician.

Born and raised in West Babylon, New York, Deacon attended the Conservatory of Music at the State University of New York, where he performed his own material and played in numerous bands. With a degree in electro-acoustic and computer music composition, Deacon relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, in 2004, forming Wham City, an arts and music collective.

Since 2003, Deacon has released albums under several different labels. Firstly, his solo efforts, Meetle Mice and Silly Hat vs. Egale Hat. He followed with records Green Cobra Is Awesome Vs. The Sun and Goose on the Loose. Then, two EPs, Twacky Cats and Acorn Master.

From there, his first commercially distributed album, Spiderman of the Rings, was named one of the 25 best records of 2007 by Pitchfork Media. Two years later, he ranked #46 on Pitchfork’s Best Albums of 2009 with Bromst. Into the 2010s with America and Gliss Riffer. His fifth album, Mystic Familiar, was released in 2020.

Deacon has performed on NBC, NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, and Noisey’s Envision Series. His compositions have been premiered at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. He has collaborated with ensembles such as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the LA Philharmonic.

Deacon has created music for film and television, including Venom: The Last Dance, Hustle, What’s Next? The Future with Bill Gates, Wedding Season, and King of Clones.

Deacon won Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Score for Ascension at the 2022 Cinema Eye Honors. He has toured with artists such as Miley Cyrus and The Flaming Lips. He has received great reviews from outlets such as Pitchfork and The Guardian.
