Crystal Castles
Crystal Castles formed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 2003, as a solo project for Ethan Kath, with the subsequent joining of Alice Glass in 2006. Crystal Castles' musical style was described by reviewer Jack Shankly as “ferocious, asphyxiating sheets of warped two-dimensional glitches and bruising drum bombast that pierces your skull with their sheer shrill force, burrowing deep into the brain like a fever.” In a 2008 review for the BBC, Sophie Hammer wrote that to listen to Crystal Castles “is to be cast adrift in a vortex of deafening pain without a safety net. You get the feeling you could do anything in the world, but that nothing would ultimately mean anything.” Crystal Castles released their self-titled debut album in 2008 featuring the singles “Crimewave” and “Vanished”. Their 2nd album “II” followed in 2010 featuring the songs “Suffocation”, “Empathy”, and “Not In Love”. 2012 saw the release of “III” featuring “Kerosene” and “Transgender”. In 2014, Alice Glass announced her departure from the band in pursuit of a solo career. In 2016 Crystal Castles released their 4th album “Amnesty (I)” with new vocalist Edith Frances, featuring the songs “Kept” and “Char”.
