Corey J.
Corey J. is an indie recording artist, born and bred in The Bronx, NY, who is taking over the New York rap scene with his honest and introspective lyrics. While it may seem like he’s new to the business, this 24-year-old lyricist has actually been writing music since he was a child. His father would play 80’s and 90’s hip-hop constantly throughout Corey’s childhood home and by the tender age of 5, he would spend his time writing music.
Corey’s passion for music came to a head when his father passed away in 2012, before being able to witness Corey showcase his talent. The last piece of advice that his father gave him was “if you don’t believe that you’re great, then nobody else will”. This motivated Corey to push himself lyrically. He decided to use this time to become serious about his gift and pursue music fully, even garnering a performance at the legendary Radio City Music Hall. Corey J.’s first released song was “UnCaged”, a rap over Mos Def’s Mathematics beat, that gained a huge amount of attention from his peers and became the catalyst for people seeing him as a real artist. Another notable song from Corey J. Is “Sides (The Conversation)”, a song that received praise for using both a male and female perspective to tackle the issue of infidelity in relationships.
