City Morgue
AKA: City Morgue ZillaKami & SosMula, ZillaKami & SosMula, SosMula & ZillaKami, SosMula X ZillaKami, ZillaKami X SosMula
City Morgue were a trap metal duo consisting of New York rappers ZillaKami and SosMula signed to Hikari-ULTRA. The two started collaborating in 2016, but they did not become an official duo until 2018. Some of their earliest work includes “GO,” “Wardog Anthem,” and “Yukk Mouth.”
The duo has also made themselves well-known within the underground for their signature loud screamo-themed vocal performances mixed with heavy, droning production. As they talked about in an interview with No Jumper, clothing is also an important part of the City Morgue aesthetic. Their friend ScumBagChad hooks them up with custom-made patched jeans (amongst other clothing) that they often are seen wearing in their music videos.
Their debut tape Hell or High Water released in October 2018. It featured their previous three biggest singles—“SHINNERS13,” “33rd Blakk Glass,” and “SK8 HEAD.”
Since the release of HELL OR HIGH WATER, the duo would remain quiet on releasing new music, up until December 2019, with the release of their sophomore album, AS GOOD AS DEAD. It featured the album’s lead single, “THE BALLOONS,” which also gained attention online, as the duo experimented with more slower-paced and sad songs, something that was not present in the first volume. A deluxe version was later released on May 15, 2020, consisting of four additional tracks. Two months later, the duo would release their mixtape, TOXIC BOOGALOO, consisting of ten tracks.
After keeping quiet on releasing new music for nearly a year, on October 15, 2021, the duo released their third studio album, BOTTOM OF THE BARREL, which contained the lead single, “WHAT’S MY NAME.” The duo would then go on tour with SSGKobe, to which ZillaKami announced on Instagram that the tour would be the last City Morgue tour, hinting the group’s disbandment. This would later turn out to be true, as the duo teased their final studio album, MY BLOODY AMERICA, along with a “final” tour. The album would finally see a release on September 15, 2023, after months of delays.
Although the duo claimed that they would be officially splitting up after the release of My Bloody America, in May 2023, it was revealed that they would be going on tour with $UICIDEBOY$ on their Grey Day 2023 event, which lasted from August 25, 2023 to October 30, 2023. Then in November 2023, it was announced that the duo would be going on their final official tour, titled “Bombs in the Mail,” which lasted from April 4, 2024 to May 17, 2024. An EP was also announced alongside the tours reveal, however since then the duo had parted ways, focusing on their solo careers.
