Darrell Gregory Jackson, known professionally as Chopsquad DJ, is an American record producer, DJ, and songwriter, born on September 13, 1993, in St. Louis, Missouri. Recognized for his dark piano-driven production style, he has become one of the leading figures in contemporary hip hop, drill, and trap music. Formerly the in-house DJ for Young Chop’s label, his stage name pays homage to that origin. Over the years, he has worked with some of the biggest names in rap, including King Von, Lil Durk, Tee Grizzley, Juice WRLD, and Trippie Redd.

Jackson was orphaned as a child and was raised by Ralph and Clara Jackson. He studied piano for nine years and attended Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School. As a teenager, he honed his musical skills playing in church before discovering FL Studio. After dropping out of Robert Morris University, he turned his full attention to music production. He was introduced to Young Chop through Johnny May Cash and soon immersed himself in the Chicago drill scene. In 2012, he also connected with Metro Boomin, a relationship that would later play a key role in his career.

Chopsquad DJ’s early work included collaborations with Chief Keef, culminating in a breakout moment in 2015 when he produced the majority of Keef’s Sorry 4 the Weight mixtape. That same year, he released his own project Forever Chopsquad, featuring artists like Lil Durk, Young Thug, and Gucci Mane. This marked his emergence as a producer in his own right. In 2016, he expanded his reach by producing for Lil Durk, Yo Gotti, and YFN Lucci, and by 2017, he was regularly working with major figures across the hip hop landscape.

His production credits multiplied between 2018 and 2019, with standout contributions to Lil Durk’s Signed to the Streets 3, Tee Grizzley’s debut album Activated, and G Herbo’s Swervo. He also co-produced tracks with Southside and TM88, further integrating into the elite producer circuit. In 2019, Chopsquad officially signed to Metro Boomin’s Boominati Worldwide. That same year, he played a major role in the creation of King Von’s Grandson, Vol. 1, producing the entire mixtape. He continued to work closely with Von, and in 2020 executive produced both Levon James and the critically acclaimed Welcome to O’Block. The latter climbed to number five on the Billboard 200 following Von’s tragic death.

Chopsquad DJ’s momentum continued with major placements on Lil Durk’s The Voice and its deluxe edition, including the single “Finesse Out the Gang Way” featuring Lil Baby. In 2022, he reached his highest Billboard Hot 100 position with Lil Durk’s “What Happened to Virgil” featuring Gunna, which peaked at number 22 and earned RIAA gold certification. His consistent work on high-profile albums like Tee Grizzley’s Scriptures, Juice WRLD’s Wishing Well, and Lil Durk’s Love Songs 4 the Streets 2 has solidified his reputation as one of hip hop’s most sought-after producers.
