Chick (Band)
Formed in the mid-90s during the recording sessions for Daydream, Chick was a secret alt-rock project by Mariah Carey. Carey recorded the album Someone’s Ugly Daughter “just for laughs”; writing, producing, and providing background vocals alongside lead vocalist Clarissa Dane, her roommate at the time. The connection between Chick and Carey was unknown until September 2020, when she revealed it on Twitter as part of promotion for her upcoming memoir.
In a snippet from the book, she writes:
I wanted to break free, let loose, and express my misery — but I also wanted to laugh. I totally looked forward to doing my alter-ego band sessions after Daydream each night.
