Carrie Newcomer was born in Dowagiac, MI in 1958 and was raised in Elkhart, IN. Her acoustic group of self-proclaimed “nerds,” Stone Soup, produced 2 albums in ‘84 and '87 before Carrie moved to Bloomington and recorded her first solo album. Throughout her career, Carrie has become a pivotal artist in modern folk music, winning numerous awards, most notably named “2003 Woman of the Year” by the City of Bloomington’s Commission on the Status of Women, as well as firmly associating herself with philanthropic causes such as the Interfaith Hunger Initiative. As of June 2018, she has released a total of 16 albums and 2 poetry books.
