Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) is now considered one of the greatest composers in Denmark’s history, though worldwide renown came to him only decades after his death. While he is known in his native land for his vocal music and interest in Danish folk songs, outside Denmark he is better known for his six symphonies and various orchestral works.
