Cardnl is the stage name used by Troy McFarland, an underground 19-year-old solo artist/bedroom producer from London, OH. Releasing his first 8-track album Nothing is Happening and Still We Keep Changing on New Years Eve of 2017, Cardnl spent much of the next year writing more material and solidifying the intimate DIY aesthetic and indie alt-pop fusion he first exhibited with his debut. As he released singles gradually over the course of 2018, the follow-up album that would become Ochre finally began to take shape. This 15-track follow-up serves as something of a sequel to the themes explored in Cardnl’s first release, and was finished as McFarland’s first semester at the University of Notre Dame came to a close. According to the album’s description, “This album is a story. It has a beginning, a middle, and then an end. After that, it stops and doesn’t keep going.” Ochre is available now on Bandcamp and Soundcloud, and will be releasing on all platforms on January 18.
