Behind Enemy Lines is an American punk band from Pittsburgh, PA. They play anarchist crust punk in crossover style with thrash metal.

The band features vocalist Dave Trenga (Aus-Rotten, Human Investment), drummer Matt Garabedian (Aus-Rotten), bassist Mary Bielich (Derketa, Em Sinfonia, Master Mechanic, Mythic, Novembers Doom, Penance, The Mud City Manglers, Wormhole X), two guitarists Ken Houser and Matt Tuite (Blackfinger, Devil Bell Hippies, Penance, The Mud City Manglers, Ticklepenny, Wicker Man).

The band was formed in the late 2000s by two former members of Aus-Rotten, Dave Trenga and Matt Garabedian along with Bill Chamberlain (Aus-Rotten, Broken, Brutally Familiar, Caustic Christ, Deceived, Devastation, Mankind?, React, Revolt, Scarred, The Brood, The Pist, The Dissidents) on guitar, and Matt Sachs (Broken, Parasytic, Scarred, Tached Out) on bass. Mary Bielich and Matt Tuite joined later, playing bass and guitar respectively. In 2007, Chamberlain was replaced by Ken Houser.

They put out three studio albums.

Dave Trenga penned most of the band’s lyrics. Most of their songs espouse an anarchist worldview and cover a range of political topics, including: animal rights, environmentalism, human rights, consumerism, LGBT rights, anti-religion, anti-capitalism, the Christian right, direct action, feminism, AIDS, immigration, animal rights and anti-war themes.

Its members practiced and promoted a philosophy of anarchist politics.

The band is perhaps most famous for its radical, quotable lyrics, strong anti-fascist stance and harsh criticism of American president, George W. Bush, especially on issues concerning the Iraq War, Abu Ghraib, subversion of human rights under the Patriot Act and the government’s response to Hurricane Katrina.

Behind Enemy Lines is formed in early 2000s and they are still active today.

Vocalist, Dave Trenga, wrote essays detailing his political opinions on both his MySpace blog and Behind Enemy Line’s website. He demonstrated a strong distaste for Christianity, stating: “I have never seen such a hateful and intolerant movement infiltrate every aspect of our lives as the current Christian movement in America has.”, and concluded: “I only hope I see this movement fall in my lifetime.”.
