The Bags (also known as the Alice Bag Band) were an American punk rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1977 by Alicia “Alice” Armandariz and Patricia Rainone, better known by their stage names Alice Bag and Pat Bag respectively.

Armandariz and Rainone had met at an audition for Venus and the Razorblades, which was an attempt to form another band by former Runaways manager Kim Fowley. The two opted to form their own band instead, naming it the Bags. They took the band’s name (and their stage names) from a gimmick that the band used during early performances where they would perform with grocery bags over their heads (the practice did not last, in part due to an incident where Darby Crash of the Germs ran up on stage and ripped the bag off Alice’s head). The band’s core lineup consisted of vocalist Alice Bag, guitarists Craig Lee and Rob Ritter, bassist Pat Bag, and drummer Terry Graham.

The Bags' first show took place at the Masque in Hollywood, California, on September 10, 1977. Their concerts had a tendency to be riotous, frequently brewing up many altercations between band members and notable people in the L.A. punk scene. In 1978, the Bags released their first record, Survive, through independent record label Dangerhouse Records. Their song “We Don’t Need the English” was included on the Yes L.A. punk compilation album released by the same label in 1979. Pat Bag left the band around this time, with Ritter volunteering to switch to bass.

In 1980, the Bags were filmed by Penelope Spheeris for the documentary film The Decline of Western Civilization, which also featured the Germs, Black Flag, Catholic Discipline, X and other Los Angeles punk bands. To avoid any conflict with Pat Bag, the band were billed as the Alice Bag Band in the film and its corresponding soundtrack, although by that point the group had already split up.
