Austrian Death Machine

Austrian Death Machine is a thrash metal side project founded in 2008 by Tim Lambesis, best known as the frontman of the metalcore band As I Lay Dying. The project acts as a parody and tribute dedicated entirely to the filmography and persona of actor/bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Musical Style and Concept

The band’s sound is a hybrid of 1980s thrash metal and modern metalcore, characterized by fast tempos, guitar solos, and heavy breakdowns. The lyrical content is strictly composed of famous one-liners and references from Schwarzenegger’s movies (such as Terminator, Predator, and Total Recall). While Tim Lambesis performs the screaming vocals and plays most of the instruments on the recordings, the distinct “Ahhnold” impersonations are performed by various voice actors, most notably Chad Ackerman (on Total Brutal and Double Brutal) and Josh Robert Thompson (on Double Brutal).

Discography and Evolution

Total Brutal (2008): The debut album established the formula, featuring solos from guest guitarists from bands like Unearth and Darkest Hour.

Double Brutal (2009): A two-disc sequel that expanded the concept with cover songs.

Triple Brutal (2014): Released shortly before Lambesis was incarcerated, marking a hiatus for the project.

Quad Brutal (2024): The project returned after a decade-long break, featuring new collaborators and continuing the Schwarzenegger-themed legacy.

Despite the comedic nature of the lyrics, the project is recognized for its high production value and technical musicianship.
