Amy Allen is an American record producer songwriter, and singer hailing from Windham, Maine. After picking up the bass guitar at the age of nine, Allen joined her sister’s rock band and eventual duo, performing folk and bluegrass in bars around Portland, Maine.

After a short time studying nursing at Boston College, Allen transferred to the renowned Berklee College of Music, to refine her craft. During her time at Berklee, Allen created and toured with her indie group Amy & The Engine in the mid-2010s.

Allen’s career took a pivotal turn when she connected with pop songwriter Scott Harris (known for his work with The Chainsmokers and Shawn Mendes), who guided her transition from aspiring frontwoman to behind-the-scenes hitmaker. In 2018, after relocating to L.A., Allen hit her stride as a songwriter, earning credits on Halsey’s chart-topping single “Without Me” and Selena Gomez’s Top 20 hit “Back to You.” Some of Allen’s other notable collaborations include Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Kygo, and Justin Bieber.

In an interview for The New York Times, Jack Antonoff, the songwriter and producer who worked alongside Allen on Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n' Sweet album, including “Espresso” and “Please Please Please,” called her “just unfazed and self-possessed,” humble pursuit of a song. “There’s something kind of stoic about her."

Over the following six years, Amy’s songwriting became a mainstay on the pop charts. Despite crafting hit after hit for other artists, she quietly set aside material for her own projects. In 2021, she dropped the standout EP AWW!, and now, she’s back with a full-length self-titled solo album.

Being a songwriter is pretty selfless a lot of times. You’re giving a lot of your stories and your time and your energy. And it’s so fun and rewarding to get to hear those songs back and see the impact they have on other people’s lives. But there is something intrinsically very different feeling when you write something for yourself, by yourself, and put it out and have that existing in the world.
