Altars

Altars is a hardcore/metalcore band from Colorado Springs, Colorado. To date they have released three EPs and two full-lengths, Opposition being their first release that came out on July 19, 2011, through Strike First Records. Their first full-length and Facedown Records debut Conclusions was released on June 5, 2012, together with an accompanying EP named Revelation which features acoustic/pop punk-esque renditions of five songs off Conclusions. The band’s latest full-length and their last through Facedown Records, Something More, was released on May 14, 2013, and their latest work, the EP A Profound Respect for Life, was self-released on January 6, 2015 and received a remaster treatment in December, 2025, together with the first new single in 10 years' time “World War Free”.

Altars use their platform as a Christian band to criticize organized religion and the greed and hypocrisy that corrupts the church. Many of their songs are also centered around fighting for a better world and seeing the good in mankind, and the beauty of the planet on which we live. They incite their listeners to do what they can do to make every person’s life easier and more pleasant while we still have the privilege of walking this Earth. Their often positive twist on important issues is something rarely found in metal, and the lyrics sung in the song “Westboro” thoroughly sum up their mindset: “I will choose to love.”

The band is composed of Canaan Smith on vocals, Seth Munson and Brock Williams on guitar, Mike Searle on bass, and Ben Reno on drums. They’ve all been in the band since the band’s inception in 2010.
