Altaria is a Power Metal and Heavy Metal band from Jakobstad (Pietarsaari), Finland, formed in 2000 by former Blindside members, Marko Pukkila (Bass) and Tony Smedjebacka (Drums).

The band solidified with the initial addition of Johan Mattjus (Vocals) and Jani Liimatainen (Guitar, known for Sonata Arctica), releasing demos such as Sleeping Visions and Feed the Fire before signing with Metal Heaven.

Their debut album, Invitation, was released in 2003 with a lineup that included vocalist Jouni Nikula and guitarist Emppu Vuorinen (Nightwish).

Following the album’s success, Nikula and Vuorinen left the band due to scheduling conflicts and priorities with their other bands (especially Nightwish and Sonata Arctica), and were replaced by Taage Laiho (Vocals, from Kilpi) and Petri Aho (Guitar).
This new lineup released the album Divinity in 2004, followed by the addition of J-P Alanen (Celesty) as second guitarist in 2005.
In 2008, the band left Metal Heaven, and Pukkila departed to join as vocalist, being replaced on bass by Marco Lupenero.

Altaria released their fifth album, The Fallen Empire, in 2016 and took a hiatus until their return in 2020, releasing the album Wisdom in 2022 under the Reaper Entertainment label.
Currently, the only active original member is Tony Smedjebacka.
