Adventure Time is an animated television series created by Pendleton Ward. Set in the fictional land of Ooo, it largely revolves around the miscellaneous adventures of Finn the Human and Jake the Dog, with the occasional episode focusing on other deuteragonists like BMO, Ice King, Princess Bubblegum, and Marceline the Vampire Queen, and other random side characters.

The show was based on a short produced for Nicktoons and Frederator Studios' animation incubator series Random! Cartoons., and drew inspiration from a variety of sources, but most notably the fantasy role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons, as well as other video games. After the short became a viral hit on the internet, Cartoon Network picked it up for a full length series which was previewed on March 11 2010, and officially premiered on April 5 2010. The show aired ten seasons and three miniseries before ending with a four-part finale on September 3 2018.

Between June 25 2020 and September 2 2021, four new hour-long special episodes aired on HBO Max as part of a spin-off called Adventure Time: Distant Lands, which focuses on new and returning characters in previously unexplored areas of the Adventure Time universe. The franchise’s second spin-off, Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, which focuses on a new storyline set after the events of the main series, premiered on August 31 2023, and was renewed for a second season which premiered two years later on October 23 2025. With a feature-length movie and two more spin-offs in the works, the franchise continues to live up to the promise Pendleton Ward made in the theme song he composed for the main series: “The fun will never end.”
