A$AP Mob
A$AP Mob was a Harlem-based collective founded in 2006 by A$AP Bari, A$AP Illz, and A$AP Yams.
The backronym A$AP has been ascribed various meanings, including “Always Strive and Prosper,” “Assassinating Snitches and Police,” and “Acronym Symbolizing Any Purpose.”
A$AP Mob put out their first mixtape, Lord$ Never Worry, in 2012.
For the next few years, the Mob strove as a collective of independent artists, with A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg being the most popular members of the crew. Meanwhile, the group had to experience Yams' untimely passing in 2015. This likely inspired them to come together for 2016’s Cozy Tapes, Vol. 1: Friends.
In a 2025 interview on the Touré Show, Ferg opened up about the state of the collective:
I’m an A$AP…But I don’t think there is A$AP anymore. There’s not a Cozy Tape out, a new one. Or there’s not an office, there’s not a record label, A$AP Worldwide. There’s not a record label. I think it’s a thing of the past.
