This could be seen from many angles. Regardless, there was an event early on in the vocalists life that took away their innocence. They saw the evil of the world and it forced them to mentally grow up while still being a child.
The vocalist finds peace in music. They find the will to live, breathe, and keep their head up with its power in their life.
This line is incredibly important to setting up the concluding message of the song- that living, regardless of whether times are tough or not, is more rewarding than continuing to sink in despair. In this case, the shore’s length might symbolize the length of one’s life (suggesting an anti-suicide sentiment) or the quality of one’s experience in life- which seems more likely as Teyler ultimately commits to taking his life, or perhaps the imprint of his existence on the world, “to [his] grave”.
Music means so much to the vocalist that they can’t even properly describe it. Much like a sunrise, music is a vast horizon filled with too much to perfectly detail.
