She hears the whispers softly rising

Hears the harsh tones of despair

Make their way, so coldly creeping

Up her spine to cloud her mind;

Raining blades upon her soul

Swinging sticks and fists and swords

Carving ever deeper holes

And cutting deep with unkind words

Her head falls sinking in her arms

In a futile last attempt

To once again avoid the harm

She knows she can never prevent

And now they bite and kick and scream

Harvest her will with a sickle

Pushing her to bear her being

Like a cross towards the scaffold

Desperate, she caves to the injunctions

Of her darkest mental rooms

The parts she knows will always function

‘Til she departs to the tomb

The dark circles beneath her eyes

Hold back the torrents of her pain

As she stifles silent cries

And one last time resists in vain

And the warm tears pool up inside

But her gaunt eyes remain so dry

And the only drops that ever land

Are tainted red by shaking hands

And she knows as death descends...

This is the only way all of this could end
