Less Than Eternity

Burn your flags

Cut your ties

And pack your bags

Pack them light

For we desert

Reality tonight

Speeding through causeways and battlefields

Til our quest for the best

Aspirations and worst fears yields

A faraway place

In which to rest our case

Another world there

Beyond this nightmare

Have you too heard of fantastic landscapes

Have you too passed through this night

Shaped by flutters of golden wings

About the swinging orb of imagination?

Beyond the goods and evils

Of the immediate moment

There's another place

Detached from pleasure and pain

A monumentally deep well

From which to draw resource

I have yet to find it a name

I play a role there, but it's no game

It's where i find that extra footstep

That one more sharp breath

It's where i escape life

Without turning to death

A haven other than heaven

A resting place to dwell

Between two sessions of hell

Peace may take a while

To come, but between you and me

I think that i believe

It'll take a day or two

Less than eternity
