I heard an old man singin' from a sidewalk

Singin' about some girl that he once knew

He'd sing awhile then laugh and start all over

So I moved up to get a better view

I watched him from the park bench where I was leanin'

I caught his eye and he walked up to me

He told of how he met this girl in Houston

And how they fell in love in just one night

They made plans to marry in the springtime

It looked like things were turnin' out just fine

Molly had a heart cold as December

Her love she never really gave at all

She met up with a gambler from New Orleans

And headed for St. Louis in the fall

He said it's been now on sixty years since he last held her close

But he's never loved another since that night

It's kinda funny how he traded life for what he wanted most

But in the end he couldn't buy back no more time

Now he spends his time with just her memory

He said, "She's comin' back someday, I know

And I'll take her in my arms and things will be alright

Just like they were so many years ago."
