[Part 1 – Tuesday’s Child]

Infected heart in isolation

Never sleeps or eats, just wastes away

Fear and shame consume her

And dreads the dying of the day

Taken from me far too soon

The pain transferred, the time before

The shroud of sorrow, endless gloom

The lovely Edith, here no more

Hopes are fading, all the while

Knowing well how long it lingers

Loss of hearing, loss of faith

Learn to listen with my fingers

I won’t let this beat me

I won’t let this go

This will not define me

Tuesday’s child will grow and grow

But I won’t let this beat me

I won’t let this go

This will not define me

Tuesday’s child will grow and grow

Consumption calls and death’s release

Misery has come to stay

And who would choose this dread disease

There’s got to be some other way

And even though the path is long

The journey made won’t be in vain

And though my sadness, I sing my song

Though my tears run like the rain

I won’t let this beat me

I won’t let this go

This will not define me

Tuesday’s child will grow and grow

I won’t let this beat me

I won’t let this go

This will not define me

Tuesday’s child will grow and grow

[Part 2 – Can You Hear Me?]

My hands are guiding me

A little bit of you, a little bit of me

It’s not that impossible to see

What I’m trying to do for all humanity

Why won’t you accept me for who I am

Maybe I could be the future?

I hold many secrets in the palm of my hand

But these wounds won’t need a suture

Can you hear me?

Can you hear my cry?

Why is no one listening?

Please, someone, look me in the eye

Although we are equals you won’t let me in

Even though I have what it takes

So many sufferings, so many within

Lost before another morning breaks

With frustration setting in, I’m sitting all alone

Hoping for a chance to speak the truth

At the back of your thoughts, can’t you see I’m flesh and bone

Looking at the shadows of my youth

Can you hear me?

Can you hear my cry?

Why is no one listening?

Please, someone, look me in the eye

[Part 3 – Too Much Trouble]

Hopeless curiosities, inflammation of the heart

Incorrect hypotheses, created works of art

Blueness in their faces, hands and arms alike

A million different cases, then the spark ignites

“Too much trouble” he said, “I don’t want to try”

“Too much trouble” he said, “I’d rather let them die”

“Too much trouble” he said, “I don’t want to try”

“Too much trouble” he said, “I’d rather let them die”

“Too much trouble” he said, “I don’t want to try”

“Too much trouble” he said, “I’d rather let them die”

“Too much trouble” he said, “I don’t want to try”

“Too much trouble” he said, “I’d rather let them die”

[Part 4 – Everything Will Be Alright]

Little baby Eileen, blue as blue can be

Fifteen months and painful thin, dying by degrees

Not expected to survive

With me, her only hope

And with her end, a new beginning

Heard through a stethoscope

People came from far and wide, to save their newborn's life

The charming place, the velvet promise, guide the sage’s knife

Sharing knowledge, working hard, the fame of treatment grew

A healthy babe in mother’s arms

No longer coloured blue

“Je suis maintenant un tout autre petit garçon…

Je vais pouvoir aller jouer avec mes petits camarades”

Bright pink cheeks, bright lips, the stuff of pure delight

Growing stronger every day, now I play just like the others might

Tens of thousands saved, saved, she gave a life of sacrifice

Now everything will be alright

Everything will be alright

[Part 5 – Every Child]

I did not let this beat me

I didn’t let it go

This did not define me

Every child will grow and grow

I did not let this beat me

I could not ever quit

The heart I gave to others

Where all the pieces fit

I did not let this beat me

I didn’t let it go

This did not define me

Every child will grow and grow

I did not let this beat me

I could not ever quit

The heart I gave to others

Where all the pieces fit

[Part 6 – Can You Hear Me?]

Passing on the knowledge

Gathering all as one

Publishing foundations

And all the deeds that have been done

Clearer through the research

Stronger through the science

Hopeful for the future

Never-ending guidance

Can you hear me?

You don’t need to wonder why

Now there’s someone listening

When we sing our lullabies

You can see me

You will multiply

The light that’s in your eyes

Reaching for the sky

Reaching for the sky

Reaching

Reaching

Reaching for the sky

Reaching for the sky
