Laid off? Damn, I just got clipped

I had been tryna dip- guess that's a message God sent

Aight, cool, I've been working with a recruiter

Lined up some interviews, so it's whatever, I got this

Down the line, no offers or I'm declined

This was supposed to be fine, I don't get what I missed

Or what I'm missing- In an awkward position

These so-called professionals act like my credentials do not exist

Graphs and pie charts imposed on us a bias

That higher education meant better hiring prospects

Pot of gold at rainbow's end, the shiny new object

Landing a quote-unquote good job, what a concept

I'm not there, blame it on my mindset

My field is a minefield, I ain't land mine yet

I'm still mining 'till I strike success

And counting every deduction struck from my check

Not moving forward but there's no stopping

Block it all out when I clock in

Time passes, new job, I'm back in the saddle

Everyone has their path, but for me, this is not it

Still on the hunt 'cause I feel my skills are stunted

But, I can't even front, there's money here that I gotta get

Fam proud, I know they're holding me down

But if you ask where I'm at now, I'd probably switch the topic

No traction with any of my passions

Plus this benefits package tells me I cannot quit

Health, dental, vision, 401 or a pension

Stock plan for the dividend, that get your attention?

Then again even the best of returns can diminish

At every job I've had, I've heard somebody bitching

Been here x years, why do they get Zs from bigwigs?

Oh, they must have a record, sounds like a prison sentence

I would tell them it's all mental

But I'm not the most optimistic- how am I different?
